Lewis' first win of the season, Vettel is back! - 2014 Malaysian Grand Prix

We're in Kuala Lumpur for the 2nd round of 2014 season!

After a wet qualification, Hamilton took pole position. Vettel the 2013 champion, 2nd and Nico Rosberg, the winner in Australia, 3rd.
One minute of silence for the MH370 victims before the race.

Race threatened hugely by rain.

Sergio Perez out of the Grand Prix and would not begin the race due to some problems on his car. Same for the Mexican.

LIGHTS OUT!
Race underway in Sepang!
Hamilton is off to a good start! Vettel tries to get in front of the Brit but Lewis' teammate takes second place.

Two cars go outside of the track, Bianchi and Maldonado, possibly a contact between them.
Later on turn 3, Ricciardo would overtake Vettel for P3.

Incredible move from Hulkenberg to take P5 off Alonso.

We see Kimi slowing down on the track, it's a left rear puncture, apparently caused by Magnussen, it was at a very early spot of his lap but fortunately he makes it to the box to change tyres, which takes him back to P20.

Then, Vettel gets back 3rd place from Ricciardo.

Nice battle for 8th place between Kevin Magnussen and the two Williams. Just a few tenths between them.

5 second stop and go for Jules Bianchi, as a result to the incident with Maldonado on the first lap.

Maldonado gets called into boxes to retire. Again, Lotus experimenting engine problems.

Pit stop for Magnussen, Massa up to P8 and Bottas up to P9.

Box for Alonso, the Spaniard falls to P9.

Box for Ricciardo, he comes out of pit lane just behind Alonso and manages to overtake him on turn 3.

Box for Sebastian Vettel, who was on P3, he comes out on P5 behind Valtteri Bottas. But the champion and his teammate overtake him  on that same lap, Alonso overtakes him shortly after.

Box for Nico Rosberg, he falls to P3 and this brings Hulkenberg to P2.

Box for the leader Hamilton on lap 16. Nico Hulkenberg goes past Hamilton into the lead of this Grand Prix.

Hulk gets overtaken by Hamilton that same lap and boxes next lap, falling to 6th.

After all the stops, the top ten is the same as before the stops.

Jean-Eric Vergne abandons this race, he experimented problems on his car's engine.

Superb move from Bottas to overtake the 'Toro Russian' for P9.

Box for Daniil Kvyät, the Russian gets out on P15.
Slow stop in boxes again for Magnussen, the Dane falls into P13, which brings Romain Grosjean's Lotus to 10th place.

Magnussen's detention is followed by Jenson's, and Grosjean's. Button falls to P9. Romain to 13th place.

This puts Kamui Kobayashi's Caterham on P10 but he is overtaken shortly by Kvyät.

Quite a battle we've got from Kamui and Romain, overtaking each other a couple of times.

Box for Vettel, this brings Hulkenberg to P3.

Stop for the leader Hamilton, he makes it to keep the lead after his stop, Hulk just behind him on P2 after Rosberg detention.

Stop for the German Hulkenberg, he claimed to be losing the rear tyres of the car, he comes out on 6th place.

Adrian Sutil's Sauber stops at the beginning of the principal straight, it's a retirement for the German. Yellow flags out.

"It raining a bit on the back of the circuit!" Kimi says to his team, a possible whole turnaround.

Esteban Gutierrez stops for tyres, there's smoke coming out from his car's brakes, it's a retirement for the Mexican, no points for Sauber in this race, both cars abandon.

"...raining in turn 9 and 10." Vettel reports to his pitwall.

Both McLarens box on lap 41 for hard tyres. Bottas up to P8. Romain up to P10.

Daniel Ricciardo! His car is off! It just stopped in the pitlane! It could've been his first podium for real! What a shame! It appeared to be an engine problem but it was just a fail in the adjustment of a tyre, but it still ruins the Aussie's race as he falls to P14.

Räikkönen! Kimi, who was 17th at the beginning of the race, now on P12 just a few seconds away from points.

Problems again for Ricciardo! His front wing breaks and punctures the Daniel's right rear. Shame for the Red Bull driver, last placed on P16. Then, 10 second stop and go for Ricciardo, because of his unsafe release, it just can't get worse for him.

Following Ricciardo's struggles and Massa's stop, Bottas goes up to P6. He boxes in lap 46 and falls to P8, just behind Massa, who is attacking Jenson Button for P6.

Box for Sebastian Vettel, Hulkenberg could possibly be overtaking Seb. No, in the end he doesn't make it, just 2.6 secs behind.

Box for Rosberg, his third one, he easily keeps his P2.

"Box, box." Hamilton to the pits, his third stop. And he will go on to keep his lead.

Fight between old teammates! Kimi threatening Grosjean for P11 in his hunt for points.

Battle for P4 between Hulk and Alonso, just 0.4 behind Hulk. Alonso gets him on the straight!
Hulk gets it back in turn 1!
Alonso gets it back in turn 2!
Hulk tries to get back but fails.

Asides to that, Massa, asked to let Valtteri Bottas pass.
The situation isn't good for the Brazilian but, he wouldn't be in it if he had killed off the battle against Button, would he?

Massa doesn't let Bottas pass.

LAST LAP!
Hamilton winning from start to end! Staggering performance for the Briton.
Checkered flag for Hamilton!
Rosberg Second! 1-2 for Mercedes!
Rosberg remains as championship leader!

In the end, Massa doesn't let Bottas pass, the tension will grow hugely in the team.

Well, Hamilton's second win with Mercedes, second win in the year for the German team.

Fernando, wondering what do the other cars have that his F14T doesn't.

Also, the first podium of the year for the world champion Vettel in third place.

A Grand Prix painted white and turquoise.

2 races, 2 point finishes for the rookies Magnussen and Kvyät.

Disappointing, the fact that again, rain threatened but never showed up.

See you in one week for the Bahrain Grand Prix! Thanks a lot for supporting this blog!

Formula One is back! - 2014 Australian Grand Prix

Welcome to Melbourne in Australia! The first race in 2014 Formula 1 season!

Rain threatens in a race where Hamilton is the pole sitter, Ricciardo 2nd on the grid and Nico Rosberg behind him!
The pole sitter Hamilton.

The beginning of a new era, the  V6 engines era!

Anything could happen in this race!

LIGHTS OUT! RACE UNDERWAY IN MELBOURNE!
After more than three months, Formula One is back!

Rosberg into the lead! Overtakes Hamilton in the straight!
Ricciardo goes second, overtakes Hamilton, Magnussen third and Hulkenberg fourth. Hamilton felt to 5th.

Kobayashi's Caterham goes past the curve and hits what appears to be Massa's Williams!
First turn incident

Kobayashi's car after the contact

Great first lap.

Bottas recovers the five spots he lost with the gearbox penalty.

Great race from the rookie Kvyät in P9.

Hamilton abandons the race due to engine problems.

Vettel also abandons due to engine too. Terrible situation for the world champion.

And Bottas overtakes his countryman Räikkönen with a great move, he could now go for Alonso!

Bottas hits the wall, rear right tire punctured. Suspension could've gotten broken but he boxed and continues on P17.
Shame for the Finn, he was doing such an awesome race.

SAFETY CAR
Bottas' tire left some remains on the track.

The first 9 cars box.

Lap 16. Safety Car out!
Race restart!
Rosberg, Ricciardo, Magnussen, Hulkenberg, Alonso, Button, Vergne, Räikkönen, Sutil and Kvyät on the top 10.

Bottas, recovering positions like there's no tomorrow! From P16 to P12 in only 2 laps!

'The Iceman', catching Jean-Eric Vergne, 0.8 behind him.

Excellent battle from 4th to 8th!
Alonso trying to catch Hulk, Button 0.7 seconds behind the Spaniard and Kimi also battling with Vergne.

And Valtteri Bottas overtakes Daniil Kvyät for P9! The Finnish-Russian wars in F1!

Rain could be coming, we see raindrops in Rosberg's helmet.

Engine oil pressure problem for Marcus Ericsson, both Caterhams abandon this race. The Swede was doing good in P14.

Lap 31. Pastor Maldonado stops out of the track, possible engine problem.

Box for Button in lap 32 falls to P8.

Battle between the Finns, Bottas 0.7 secs behind Kimi.
Kimi blocks the tire and Valtteri goes past him!

Alonso boxes in lap 36, he comes out before Hulk but the German easily gets the position back.

Pit stop for Magnussen, the Dane falls back to P3 behind Ricciardo.

The leader, Nico Rosberg, stops in lap 38. That'll surely make it for Keke's son.

The 'Toro Russian' Kvyät in P10 chasing Kimi for P9.

Also, Bottas trying to pass Vergne, just a few tenths behind him.

Awesome maneuver by Bottas! Goes past Vergne!

Räikkönen now, attacks the Frenchman too.

Ricciardo slowing down and the Danish rookie Kevin Magnussen behind approaching him.

Bottas now, attacking the German Nico Hulkenberg for P6. He overtakes him on lap 52.

Vergne struggles and goes slightly out of the track, Kimi takes advantage and overtakes him.

Last lap for Rosberg!

Rosberg wins in Melbourne! His 4th career win!
Incredible drive for Nico!

Daniel Ricciardo, the hometown boy, takes his first career podium! The first podium for a Australian in Australia.

Magnussen! The rookie grabs his first podium in his first ever career!

Nico raises his hand to be this year's champion.

With this result, the 'Toro Russian' Daniil Kvyät breaks Vettel's record and becomes the youngest Formula 1 driver in scoring points with today's 9th place finish.
Great race to watch. Valtteri Bottas, the man of the race today awesome performance.

BREAKING NEWS: Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo has been excluded from the Australian Grand Prix and has lost his 2nd place finish. FIA informed that the reason for this exclusion was that Ricciardo's car had exceeded the 100kg of fuel mass limit.
It's a shame for the Australia but I'd say that he should feel bad about it, I mean, he made a superb performance in front of his people, this exclusion only means he doesn't get the points for it.

With this, the top 10 is now this:
1-Rosberg 2-Magnussen 3-Button 4-Alonso 5-Bottas 6-Hulkenberg
7-Räikkönen 8-Vergne 9-Kvyät
10-Perez

Thank you all for all the reads in this blog and we'll be seeing ourselves in two weeks for the race in Malaysia.

Final Bahrain Test - My Review

Hi! There less than one week to go until the lights go out in Melbourne to start the 2014 Formula One Season. Here it is, my review on the last Bahrain test.
Now, I am only going to speak about the front runners because, at least for me, it is now clear where the rest of the teams will be standing.

I'll begin with Red Bull.
I think they'd be lucky to reach a few points next week in Australia. Sure, they were able to solve some reliability problems on the two Bahrain tests but they still have some pace and speed problems going on, Sebastian Vettel himself has expressed that it'd even be hard for the car to reach the final lap.
The only solution to their problem is if they keep developing the car throughout the season, working hard but right now, I say Red Bull's domination will come to an end this year.

Mercedes came out of this test showing less than what they showed in the first Bahrain test as they only topped the time sheets on Day Four but still, it'd be a total mistake to say that they won't be battling for podiums and wins.

Ferrari didn't actually show anything different from what they've been showing since the Jerez testing, I believed they showed what they needed to: that they are standing on high ground. They're certainly ready for this season and will be doing their to get back the drivers and constructors championship this year.

McLaren was wiped out of the stage as they only were in the top four once in Day  3. I don't know how something like this happened to them, they showed pace and a good performance in the first two tests. But I don't think that problem is big enough to affect the Woking-based squad's possibilities of getting podiums and winning races this season, I mean, they have the most reliable engine and they surely can work through the problem to fix it during the season or even before the season starts.

Force India was by far the team that performed the best in both of the Bahrain tests, Nico Hulkenberg topped the timesheets on Day 1 in the first one and Sergio Perez did so in Day One and Day Two.
I think this is finally the season in which the green, black and orange team will get the first win in their 7 year history in F1, and this also would mean that probably Hulk will get his first career win or probably Sergio Perez or probably even both.

Remember when I said this would be the season in which Williams would jump into the front runners teams and would be battling for points again? Well, I would say I was wrong.
Right now I think Frank William's squad has enough potential to give Finnish Valtteri Bottas his first career win and Brazilian Felipe Massa his first win since the 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix and even to give these two drivers a good approach towards the championship.

That's it for my last review! See you guys after the race in Melbourne!

Well, also, I have to say I fell in love...

Williams doesn't only have a quick and efficient car but a beautiful one too, eh?
The Martini livery looks amazing on this car. I don't think that there's a nicer car this year.
