Добро пожаловать в Россию! (Welcome to Russia!) - 2014 Russian Grand Prix

Welcome to the circuit of Sochi in the Olympic Park in Russia, venue for the first ever F1 race in the country.
Truly beautiful surroundings in the track.
Formula One Management showed a message of support to Jules Bianchi during qualifying and the race.

Awesome sunrise in Sochi.
All the drivers United in a moment of silence for Jules Bianchi.

Nico Rosberg comes into this race with hopes of cutting Lewis Hamilton's lead in the championship after a disappointing retirement in Singapore and after finishing second to Lewis.
It was certainly a boring race, not the most boring one in the season, in my opinion but many factors such as low tire degradation, few overtaking spots in the circuit and regulations such as the fuel limit, were the main reason of how the race turned out.

Lewis starts the race on pole position just ahead of Rosberg and Williams' Valtteri Bottas.

After lights were out, Lewis went on to a good start, pulling away a little bit from Nico. Rosberg tried to overtake him on the second turn but made a costly mistake and locked both of his front tires and also ran off the track, he would retake his place behind Hamilton but was forced to put in the very first lap due to his tires' condition. He came out in last place but had the benefit of that being his only stop in the race.
Start of the race in Sochi.

No safety cars helped Nico, the great comeback from last to second place was all because of Nico's ability and the car's pace and he also did a great job saving his tires, enduring more than 50 laps in a set of medium tires.
Nico did everything he could to lessen the damage made by his early mistake and picked up as many points as he could behind Hamilton in order for him not to let Lewis gain much advantage.

From Lewis it was just a brilliant drive, after pressure from Nico wasn't a problem anymore, he could drive at full, with a good advantage over Valtteri Bottas and Jenson Button.

Hamilton takes another step towards the world championship but Nico's comeback confirms what I have been saying in here the last races, Rosberg won't let the championship go so easy.
The moment of Nico's hard tire lock.
The moment when Valtteri Bottas runs slightly off track and is overtaken by Rosberg.

Nico's work and strategy paid off.

Hamilton took his ninth win of the season.

Rosberg and Putin in the podium.

The podium ceremony with Nico, Lewis, Valtteri and Mercedes' Paddy Lowe.

All smiles in the podium.

For Williams, young sensation Valtteri Bottas did a great performance in qualifying, claiming a third starting slot and coming really close to snatching pole from Hamilton before a small mistake late in that lap spoiled his effort.

It was a good race for Valtteri, he was able to keep the pace all race long, without struggling with pressure from drivers behind him, the only threat to his  then second place was Nico Rosberg who made his only stop early in the race. Later, Nico would overtake Bottas during the Finn's pit stop.
After the race, Valtteri declared to be happy with the podium but disappointed as the team hoped to be able to challenge for the win.
Bottas, on track in Qualy.

On the other side of the garage, Felipe Massa's run in Q1 was cut short often some problems hit his car, he was knocked out of Q2 by Marcus Ericsson and forced to start in P17, this set he table for a bad race for the Brazilian, and it turned out better than expected, after his early pit stop an after the rest of the field pitted, he was able to be in point scoring positions but for some reason, his strategy didn't work as Rosberg and was forced to put a second time, which sent him back in P14, however Massa would recover a few spots to finish in P11.

Behind Bottas, arrived Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen's McLarens in fourth and fifth respectively, this was probably the best race for the Woking squad in the whole season since the double podium finish in Australia.
While Button resisted Fernando Alonso's attacks efficiently, Magnussen made a good comeback from P11, took advantage of the Toro Rossos' bad pace and Kimi's start struggles and also was able to outpace the Red Bulls Alonso later in the race.

Behind the two McLarens, came Fernando Alonso, who made a good start as usual, climbed three places and tried to get past Jenson Button to take third but couldn't in the end but lost two places to Kevin Magnussen, after a bad pitstop and to Rosberg who simply had a much better pace.

On the other side of the Italian squad's garage, Kimi Räikkönen started the race just behind his teammate Alonso in P8.
The start was the reason for his bad result as he was unable to get past Daniil Kvyät and was later almost pushed out by Daniel who he also tried to overtake Ricciardo. The move that Kimi tried in the outside of the corner could've gotten him 4 positions but instead, he lost three but that wouldn't an impediment for the Finn to score any points as he was able to retake the spots lost to the Toro Rossos but that was all that he could do as he couldn't match the Red Bulls' pace and he would come home to finish in P9.
Ferrari showed their support to Jules Bianchi.

'The Iceman' on track in Friday.

Behind Alonso, arrived Daniel Ricciardo. The Aussie's performance was only enough to maintain his starting position. Although he lost positions to Vergne and Vettel early in the race in a small Red Bull-Toro Rosso battle for P5, P6, P7 and P8, Daniel was able to overtake both Toro Rossos a few laps later and he was also able to overtake Sebastian during the German's pit stop.
In the closing stages of the race, Ricciardo tried to overtake Fernando Alonso for P6, spending most of the last 10 laps in the Spaniard's tail only a few tenths behind, the Australian's effort came shirt and Daniel was only able to claim seventh.

Just behind Ricciardo, in eight, it was Sebastian Vettel who took advantage of Kimi Räikkönen's problems and the start and of the Toro Rossos' drop of the pace to pick up three places but losing only one place to Rosberg which left him in P8, gaining two positions from his P10 starting slot.

Force India's Sergio Perez arrived P10 behind the Red Bulls and Kimi Räikkönen's Ferrari. It wasn't quite a good result but it was what was expected from the car after the results seen in the practices and in Qualy.
This result didn't only meant one more championship point for Checo but another internal win over his teammate Nico Hulkenberg who finished twelfth, this result ties the series 8 to 8 between the two. One of the most balanced drivers pairings in terms of talent and performance.

Important to mention Daniil Kvyät's excellent Qualy performance, qualifying in P5 in his home race. In the race it was a whole different story as, like his teammate Jean-Eric Vergne who started P10, suffered from the STR8's lack of pace and they finished P14 and P13 respectively.

Jules' car was present on Marussia's garage but nobody drive it in the whole weekend.

Marussia raced for Jules.

Mercedes secured the 2014 World  Constructors Championship. Congratulations to them on an amazing season and a hard worked and deserved achievement.

Even in their championship celebration, Mercedes had Jules in their thoughts.

Important to mention Russian grid girls' beauty:P

Formula One is on for a three week break that'll surely help championship contenders Rosberg and Hamilton to relax, clear their minds, focus and come back stronger.

So, see y'all in three weeks when F1 is back in the Circuit of the Americas in Austin for the third race in that venue.
Thanks for all the support!

Forza Jules! - 2014 Japanese Grand Prix

Welcome to the circuit of Suzuka in Japan, main stage of spectacular championship definitions in 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1991.

Today, in 2014's F1 we are set to see an incredible race under the rain, with Nico Rosberg's 'Silver Arrow' on pole position followed by Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

Track conditions a few moments before the race.

As rain doesn't stop falling, race will start behind the safety car.

Lights go out and the race is go!
Just before finishing his first lap, Marcus Ericsson spins and loses the positions he had gained in Qualy. A shame for the Swede as he had a good qualifying in P19 and was set to start in P17 due to two penalizations.

Lap 3, red flag, race is stopped and we will have to wait for conditions in the track to improve.

IMPORTANT: FROM TWO LAPS INTO THE RACE TO 75% OF IT, ONLY HALF POINT WILL BE AWARDED TO THE DRIVERS. AFTER THE 75%, FULL POINTS WILL BE AWARDED.

15:15 Suzuka time, announcement says race will begin in ten minutes.

Lap 3, race is restarted behind the safety car.

Momento before the restart.

We see Alonso's car stalled at the first corners, apparently an electronic problem. It will be the Spaniard's second retirement in the season.
With rumors of Alonso leaving Ferrari, this is an approach to the breaking point between both parts.

The Spaniard, leaving his steering wheel aside after retiring.

15:42 Suzuka time, lap 9, safety car is out and the race is restarted!
Hamilton tried to take the lead on the outside but doesn't succeed.

Button stops for intermediates, the only one of the whole field.

And that is one gutsy attempt from Sebastian Vettel to overtake Kevin Magnussen.

Ricciardo, Magnussen, Perez, Bottas, Räikkönen, Kvyät and many others stop for inters in lap 12. The leaders don't stop.

Massa, Vettel, Hulk and Sutil box for inters the next lap.

Lap 14, the leader Rosberg boxes for intermediates, handing the lead to Hamilton. Jules Bianchi, who was 3rd, boxes in the same lap, now Lewis is the only driver using full wet tires.

It wasn't a very clever move so he decides to stop for inters aswell in lap 15 and this leaves the lead to Nico again.

Magnussen boxes again in lap 16.

A master move from Seb to take P5 from Felipe Massa. Daniel Ricciardo follows the move and overtakes Massa int he next lap.

The Red Bulls continue to recover positions, overtaking Valtteri Bottas to get in P4 and P5 in lap 19.

Rosberg's lead is cut by Lewis to only 1.2 secs. However Nico is able to stretch the lead to 1.5 secs again, a lead which is cut to 0.7 just s couple of laps later.
Incredible racing between the Silver Arrows.

Hamilton exits the track for a small lapse of time, breathing space for Nico.

As seen in the picture, Lewis struggled with brakes before taking the lead.

Hamilton overtakes Nico and takes the lead with a nice move on turn one on lap 29.

The winning move by Lewis.

Sebastian Vettel boxes for new inters in lap 30.

Hamilton quickly builds a big lead of 3.6 secs on Rosberg, who is possibly losing time due to the tires condition.
On lap 34, Nico stops for a new set of intermediates, which should give him a small edge over Hamilton when he boxes.

Lewis stops in lap 36.

Ricciardo boxes for the last time in lap 37 to come out in P5, shortly after, the Aussie overtakes Button for P4, but the Briton strikes back, but the Aussie would have the last word and would overtake Jenson a couple laps later.

Valtteri Bottas boxes in lap 40 and comes out just ahead of Felipe Massa.

Maldonado, Magnussen and Kobayashi box for wet tires as the rain hits the track again.

On lap 43, it is retirement for Adrian Sutil as the German hits the wall in turn 7.

Jenson stops for full wets on lap 43, it could be podium for the Briton as the leaders could also stop.

Safety car! Possibly due to the difficulties the officials have had getting Sutil's Sauber out of the track.
Hamilton's lead is vanished in the closing stages.

Marshalls trying to get Sutil's car out.

Inters for both Force Indias, Nico Rosberg and for Vettel.

RED FLAG! This could mean the race could be finished.
It is rumored that the cause of it is Jules Bianchi's car exiting the track in the same spot as Sutil did.
Preoccupation on Marussia's mechanics' faces puts me worried about what happened to Bianchi.

Race is over. Since 75% of the race was completed, full points will be awarded.

Lewis Hamilton takes a fair and deserved win under the rain in a confusing and strange race.

Nico Rosberg makes the best he can do not to lose too much points in the championship and finishes second.

Sebastian Vettel claims his second consecutive podium and finishes in third place. Good performance from Seb today.

And with Räikkönen finishing in P12, this race marks the first pointless race for Ferrari in a long time.

No smiles on the podium finishers' faces, everyone is concerned about Bianchi's health.

The British anthem sounds with an atmosphere of uncertainty and preoccupation in Suzuka.

Podium ceremony.

Vettel's second consecutive podium.

No champagne celebration after the podium.

Jules Bianchi reportedly hit the truck that was trying to lift Sutil's car, he was taken to the medical center, we all hope he's ok.

Jules' Marussia, at the center of the picture.

Latest news say Bianchi was taken to the Mie General Hospital and was taken into surgery due to a severe hit to the head he received.

A few hours later, it was reported that the surgery was successful and Jules was put on intensive care and that he was breathing on his own, something great to hear.

According to RMC Sports Bianchi's condition has worsened and he has been put on life support. I suggest to wait for official reports as this could be only a speculation.
I'll be giving you more information about the situation.
